FAQ

  • What is Sawubona?
Sawubona is Prince William County Virginia's only Afrocentric education cooperative serving scholars ages 3-18. We aim to instill pride in African and African American heritage and celebrate the many contributions of Black people. All facets of our learning center African and African American experiences and invite our scholars to have a deeper and more complete understanding of themselves and a more accurate understanding of our world. At the root of our learning philosophy is love. We know that it is vitally important for children to be educated in emotionally safe, nurturing and affirming learning environments. Research shows that in the first five years of child's life, his/her brain is developing rapidly which includes the absorption and processing of messaging around their racial and cultural identity. Who and what a child is exposed to during this critical time of growth is important and will impact his/her development. We partner with parents, guardians and community members to grow strong children who are proud of their cultural roots and who recognize and respect the cultural roots of others.
